Cultural Arts Council of Wilkes
It is the purpose of the Cultural Arts Council
of Wilkes to foster, promote, and increase the
public knowledge and appreciation of the arts
and cultural activities in Wilkes County, North
Carolina through coordination of programs and
services as are deemed necessary to encourage
participation in and appreciation of the arts by
all citizens of the area.

Unique Artist of Yadkin Valley.
The Unique Artist Of Yadkin Valley is now three
years old and continues to grow and thrive. It
has a membership of 61 members, based in Wilkes
county with most of its members residents of
Wilkes County, membership is open to anyone
living in the Yadkin valley. The group has made
another step forward by establishing a mini
gallery in Melody Square.

Black Cat Station.
If you’re in the mood to relive a bit of
railroad history‚ stop by Black Cat Station.
Home of the Yadkin Valley Chapter of the
National Railway Historical Society‚ the station
makes its home at 800 Elizabeth St. in North
Wilkesboro‚ the former location of the Wilkes
Art Gallery. The society runs a 1/87th scale
model railroad at the site‚ named in honor of
the Black Cat Sandwich Shop that was an earlier
tenant of the building.
Candlelight Ghost Tours
at Wilkes Heritage Museum.
Think
you’ve seen a ghost? That just might be the case
if you take part in the Wilkes Heritage Museum’s
monthly Candlelight Ghost Tours. The nightly
excursions take place from May through Halloween
in buildings located throughout Old Wilkes‚
including the Old Wilkes Jail‚ Smithey Hotel and
the Presbyterian Cemetery.
Rendezvous Mountain
Educational State Forest.
Welcome to Rendezvous Mountain Educational State
Forest, a unique outdoors experience! Located in
the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains, this forest
showcases magnificent mountain hardwoods in one
of North Carolina's most scenic setting. Its
features are accessible by a series of
well-marked trails, accented by exhibits and
displays depicting the ecology of the managed
forest.
Stone Mountain State Park.
Stone
Mountain is not immediately visible upon
entering the park that bears its name, but this
magnificent 600-foot granite dome is well worth
the wait. Sunlight and shadows dance across a
broad tapestry of stone. White-tailed deer
emerge from the security of the forest to graze
on meadow grasses at the mountain's base. The
scenery is only one attraction of the park.
Wilkes Heritage Museum
Exhibits Range from Civil War to NASCAR.One of the
race cars driven by NASCAR legend and Wilkes
County native Junior Johnson is here‚ and so is
a piece of the military jacket worn by Gen.
Robert E. Lee. They are among the hundreds of
exhibits being showcased at the Wilkes Heritage
Museum‚ which opened to the public in November
2005.

offer the public, including areas for camping,
picnicking, swimming, fishing, hiking, and boat
launching.
