Highlands Biological Station. The
Trail for Sunset Rocks is located across the
street and include beautiful mountain and valley
views. The Nature Center has an Amphitheatre and
lake.
Highland's Historical Society.
The Highlands Historical Society's Historic
Village is located at 524 N. 4th Street in
Highlands, North Carolina. It is composed of the
House-Trapier-Wright Home ("the Prince House"),
the Highlands Historical Museum and Archives,
and Bug Hill Cottage. The House-Trapier-Wright
Home is the oldest existing house in Highlands,
built in 1877 by millwright Arthur House, and
serves as a living history museum.

Playhouse.
The Highlands
Playhouse is "the" place for entertainment.
The Playhouse hires professionals and
theatre students from select colleges that are the top in their
class, and even some “locals” for spice. The Playhouse's
reputation continues to grow. It is listed each year in the New
York Times. In 1995 a major national magazine rated it among the
top ten summer theatres in the country.

one of the most spectacular areas in the
southeast with cascading waterfalls, trout

acre backcountry area in Nantahala National

gallery was established in 1982 as a nonprofit art center.For over twenty years The Bascom - Louise Gallery /
Highlands Visual Art Center has been the only non-profit visual art
center in Highlands. From humble
beginnings in the Hudson Library as a room to display regional
art, we have evolved into a dynamic visual art center.
We have become, not only a gallery to display regional art,
but a museum to house a budding permanent collection, as well
as an educational center for numerous workshops and
lectures.
