1885, the town of
Whittier,
North Carolina
once
flourished as a lumber center
before succumbing to the Great
Depression. No longer
incorporated, Whittier NC is a
quiet little community on the
banks of the Tuckaseigee River
and mostly residential. Whittier is located about 4 miles from
Cherokee, 12 miles from
Sylva, and 11 miles from
Bryson City. Within minutes, visitors
to Whittier NC can
enjoy gaming or entertainment at Harrah's Cherokee Casino, take a
whitewater run down the Nantahala, or take a scenic drive in Great Smoky
