Rutherfordton North Carolina, established in 1787, is among the oldest
towns in Western North Carolina and is the seat of the oldest
continuous government in the region. Steeped in history since the
Revolutionary War, Rutherfordton NC has managed to keep its “old time” charm
while progressing into the 21st century. From the cluster of
antebellum houses in the historic district at the north end of
Rutherfordton to the
Foothills Connect Technology Center on the south end, this town spans
centuries.

Artists Center.
The Rutherford County Visual Artists Center is
the project of the non-profit Rutherford Visual
Artists Guild with more than 50 members. The
center houses the Guild Gallery, Gift Shop,
studio space for members and classroom space for
workshops and instruction. On display and
available for purchase are paintings in all
mediums, ceramics, wood carving, sculpture,
fused and stained glass, metal work, hand made
furniture, fiber art and other creations of
talented Rutherford County Guild members. |

Custom Framing, fine art and craft. Located in
historic downtown Rutherfordton. The quaint
building is one of the oldest in town. Over the
past 14 years, in addition to the traditional
framing services offered, Judy Padgett has built
an inventory of fine hand-crafted items. The
Gallery is listed in the Handmade in America
guide book and focuses primarily on American
made pieces, including local, regional and
national work. All custom framing is completed
in house, in the frame shop in the back of the
store. |

Brestel is the artist/owner of Painter's Gap Art

in the southeastern corner of Rutherford County,
North Carolina along the Second Broad River. What's left of the village of
Cliffside is dedicated to preserving
the memories and lore of the little mill town. |

Museum of Rutherford
Hospital was created to record and preserve the
Hospital's heritage. The artifacts in the
collection were actually used at Rutherford
Hospital. The design features vignettes that
showcase several areas of hospital life,
including the 1906 Surgical Room, Nursing School
