In 2000 The town of Black Mountain adopted a Greenway Master Plan.  When complete it will consist of a continuous greenway connecting Montreat, Old Fort and Ridgecrest to Black Mountain and continue west to Swannanoa. 
 
The Park Rhythms Outdoor Concert Series runs from June through August at Lake Tomahawk Park. A variety of musical groups from throughout the region provide music from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Local businesses help sponsor this concert series. For more info contact: (828)669-2052.

Lake Tomahawk Just a few blocks from downtown is the quaint city park, Lake Tomahawk, offering a well lighted level .55 mile path for safe strolling , running or dog walking day or evening. The only noise one might encounter on their walk is the quacking of wild ducks. Adjacent to the lake are open lighted tennis courts, a children's playground, benches and picnic tables and a community pool which is open Memorial day through Labor Day.

Black Mountain area Attractions
Swannanoa Valley Museum - For millennia, the Swannanoa Valley has been a pathway for both animals and humans. After the Revolutionary War, pioneers entered the Valley. Some such as Col. Samuel Winslow Davidson (left) settled here. Others, including famed frontiersman Davy Crockett, passed through on their way west. Black Mountain Art Galleries, Crafts
Black Mountain Center for the Arts Theatre, classes and an exhibition gallery.  The Center is located in the renovated Old City Hall at 225 West State Street in historic downtown Black Mountain. The Center offers Special Events as well as changing Gallery Shows
Seven Sisters  Gallery in Black Mountain, NC has been celebrating American artisans since 1981. Featured are unique, one-of-a-kind fine arts and crafts including pottery, jewelry, sculpture, paintings, glassware and metal workers, all hand-crafted in America. More than 250 artists are represented. 
Firescreens and Tools Black Mountain Iron Works.  Wander through and enjoy the sculptures exhibited on the lawn and listen to the water as it trickles from handmade fountains.Relax on a whimsical bench or stroll by the door to the studio. You may catch glimpses of works in progress. You'll find everything from small sculptures to garden gates. 
Cherry Street Gallery  offers an outstanding selection of handcrafted items from local and national artists. Traditional, contemporary, whimsical and humorous selections are everywhere. We strive to provide beautiful, high quality, affordable art and crafts to customers near and far. Shipping is available, and we promote Handmade in America. Located inside the gallery is our wine room where we feature fine handcrafted American wines. 
[Inside The Gallery] The Old Depot Association & Gallery, a non-profit and volunteer organization, was started in 1976 to protect and maintain the 100 year old train depot and support the teaching of mountain and heritage crafts in the local Swannanoa Valley Schools.  The Association sponsors scholarships to assist artisans from Western North Carolina to further study within their field. The Depot Association offers various craft classes during the summer and sponsored an arts program in each of five public schools to meet the needs of the art teacher's curriculum. 
Vine and Bark Stoneware Pottery Black Mountain Studios. (Swannanoa) One of the best kept secrets in the area, Black Mountain Studios is a Fine Craft and Art Gallery featuring many local artists as well as some nationally known artists. Owned and operated by Austin and Maud Boleman. They are both award winning potters with work being shown all over the United States and parts of Europe. 
Sourwood Gallery, Inc. The Sourwood Gallery is a co-op gallery of local artists offering original art for sale. We have  paintings, pottery, jewelry, wooden executive toys, wood carvings, photography, stained glass and other fine art 
Gingko Tree Gallery, Joye Ardyn Durham. Photography for me is a gift and I feel very grateful to be able to share it with others. Capturing images that preserve one's experience in time is what my work is all about. A baby’s first laugh, a joining of two souls, a family together for a mountain visit, the surrounding inspiration of natural life, and the creative expression in the artistic form, all are a part of photography in my world. 
Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League - Founded in 1967, the SVAL is the oldest art organization in this region. We promote the visual and musical fine arts with workshops, ongoing classes, exhibits, music lessons and concerts. The Appalachian Artisans Gallery   - (TAAS Gallery, Old Fort) The newest addition to downtown  Old Fort, provides contemporary space for locally hand-made crafts featuring  fiber art, pottery, woodcarving, jewelry and paintings. The Gallery also offers Butterfly Blends Premium Candles and jewelry-making supplies. 
Artist_Sharole_Ewing_Black_Mountain_NC Sharole Ewing Fine Art  Sharole creates artwork and portraiture primarily in the Realism style while her other selected works have hints of the Impressionistic and Painterly styles. Born in Vancouver, BC, Canada Sharole’s home is now in Western North Carolina area. She is a member of the Dare County Arts Council and the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League. 
Cliffs from Blue Ridge Parkway Kent A. Barnes  Kent Barnes who is originally from Kewanee, Illinois, has made his home in Black Mountain, North Carolina since the mid 80’s. Born and raised in farm country the mountains have been a special place for him.
