Stecoah
North Carolina and the unspoiled mountains and crystal clear streams
and lakes make Graham County natural for people who enjoy a wonderful summer
retreat. Modern day road builders have vastly improved on the quality of those
first roads, yet the year-around population remains at less than 10,000.
However, during the early Spring and continuing into the late Fall our
population is substantially increased by the influx of resort minded people.
Water sports are especially popular on our two lakes, Santeetlah and Fontana.
Several of the trout streams have a national reputation. This is a quiet place. Air or water pollution and
crime or traffic jams are almost unheard of. And because the Nantahala National
Forest covers approximately sixty percent of our County, our beauty and privacy
will be preserved, and we will not become anything other than what we are
today...a great place to reside for those who love the natural amenities that
these mountains have historically offered. |

Gernandt Stringed
Instruments. Spending much of my life in the heart of the Great
Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina,
it was a matter of time before being introduced to the Appalachian
Mountain Dulcimer. By 1977 I began playing and building them. This was
quite a change from the past 12 years of playing and hauling a huge drum
set around. Quiet, soothing and very portable, the dulcimer went
everywhere with me for many years. The response to my dulcimers was so
positive, it inspired me to continue building. Gernant

Kaydee Kreations
is a small, home-based
business in the Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina. It is
named for my husband, K.D., who brought me here to his family roots eight
years ago. Although born in New York, I did not have
much trouble assimilating into mountain life (which I dearly love) and
found myself involved in playing the hammered dulcimer, quilting,
knitting, and sewing to my heart's content. I also became actively
involved with herbal therapy and natural foods and incorporated this newly
found knowledge into my cooking at home. Kaydee

Branch Homestead Cheese. Yellow Branch Farm is located in
western North Carolina, near Fontana Lake in Graham County. Yellow Branch
is the name of the small creek that flows down the valley and empties into
Fontana Lake. We moved
to the farm with the intention of producing food for our table and
acquired a jersey milk cow named Rosebud. Learning to make cheese soon
followed. Now, there is a small herd of jersey cows that provide the milk
to produce Yellow Branch Cheese. Licensed in l986, we are part of a
growing number of artisan and farmstead cheese
