The town of Highlands North Carolina and the immediate
surrounding area offer a myriad of activities for your enjoyment. While golf,
mountain climbing , hiking, biking, canoeing and river rafting are some of the
area's main attractions, there are many other choices for you if you are not in
a sporting mood or don't particularly feel like communing with nature. We highly
recommend shopping, antiquing and browsing in the town of Highlands. Our local
merchants will gladly help you with your selections and the beautiful clothes,
crafts, art, local food items, souvenirs and gifts you bring back home with you

The
Chandler Inn is located a pleasant fifteen minute walk
from Main Street Highlands. Surrounded by trees and nature, the Inn
includes three barn-sided buildings
grouped around a brick courtyard. Porches with swings and rocking
chairs, hanging baskets and plenty of bird feeders create a rustic
and relaxing ambiance. Each of our fifteen rooms is
individually decorated. Brass headboards, eyelet sheets and comforter,
country wall papers, and native wood paneling have been used

Highlands
Playhouse. Located in the hear of downtown
Highlands, NC. the Highlands Playhouse is "the" place for
entertainment. The
Playhouse hires professionals, theatre students from select colleges
that are the top in their class, and even some “locals” for
spice. The
Playhouse's reputation continues to grow. It is listed each
year in the New York Times. In 1995 a major national magazine
rated it among the top ten summer theatres in the country. In
1996 the National Geographic Traveler noted the quality of the
Playhouse and praised the community for sustaining such an important
cultural venture. In 1998, the Wall Street Journal prominently

The Instant
Theatre Company is a year-round, on-going theatre
workshop and performing troupe dedicated to enhancing the Highlands
community's cultural environment as well as providing a very good
time for its audiences! The Instant Theatre Company - founded in
1981 - is a professional, cultural, educational, and community
service organization dedicated to improving community life by
fostering the arts, promoting artists, and supporting other
community organizations. The company enhances the community by
providing an environment in which performers, writers, directors,
and technicians may hone their craft and by nurturing the creative

Highlands/
Cashiers Chamber Music Festival. Highlands
Chamber Music Festival, with the assistance of a $5000 grant from
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kahn through the J. A. Hooker Charitable Trust
of Miami, Florida, the Festival presented its first series of
concerts in cooperation with the Hudson Library and the Highlands
Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. The enthusiastic response from
the music lovers of Highlands encouraged the founding of the annual

Cyprus is a restaurant located in
Highlands, North Carolina, and dedicated to the philosophy that some of
the greatest, most rewarding food to be had is the great peasant food of
the world. Therefore, we take our cues about our cuisine from the
precepts we
learn about traditional cuisines. We
feature a fairly broad house menu, plus a different REGIONAL MENU
each night of the week. As an example, each Tuesday night is Thai
night at Cyprus, and each Saturday night features South American cuisine.

Fine Art Center ...an
important cultural resource for the Western North Carolina region, its
many residents, and visitors to our area. The Fine
Art Center is a not-for-profit art center located in the Hudson Library
building at 554 Main Street, Highlands, N.C. The
gallery was established in 1982 as a nonprofit art center. For
over twenty years The Bascom - Louise Gallery / Highlands Visual Art
Center has been the only non-profit visual art center in Highlands. From
humble beginnings in the Hudson Library as a room to display
regional art, we have evolved into a dynamic visual art
center. We have become, not only a gallery to display
regional art, but a museum to house a budding permanent collection,
as well as an educational center for numerous workshops and
